If you like your spa experience to feel cozy, like
you're staying at a relative's cottage in the
country, you'll love this spa. Roomfuls of natural
light spill onto buttermilk painted walls. Customers
can sit in comfy nooks below high shelves with
casually-folded spring-colored patchwork quilts,
plush pillows, bouquets of pastel silk flowers and
hand-crafted artwork. Here it smells like the fruity
oils and lotion used in massages. The manicure room
is lofty and light with pine-style cupboards.
Wind down a wide stairwell to a handful of private
soft-lit rooms for massages and body treatments such
as sea mud wraps, aromatherapy or body salt glows.
Massage tables are covered with yellow and purple
homey quilts. At the other end downstairs is a
pedicure room. Patrons sit on a high, tiled bench
along one wall while their feet soak in
custom-designed porcelain basins. Though it's now a
relaxing spa retreat, this structure was once a
storage shed turned into housing for farm workers
on the Joseph J. Schmidt farm southwest of downtown
Salt Lake. Rent out the space for bridal showers or
stop in to buy cosmetics like Dermalogica products.
